Corporate Background and Structure:
Can-ar Coach Service is a division of Tokmakjian Inc., a privately held Canadian corporation and a member of the Tokmakjian Group. The latter is comprised of a number of wholly owned operating companies serving the bus, truck and industrial equipment industries in both domestic and international markets.
Can-ar Coach Service, combined with its sister company, SN Diesel Service, occupy over 70,000 feet of modern facilities at 221 Caldari Road in Concord (just north of Metropolitan Toronto). They employ a total of 200 people, with some seasonal adjustments with respect to the number of coach drivers.
Can-ar and its predecessor, Travelways, have served the group travel market in the Toronto area for over 30 years and have given birth to two major Tour Operators in the educational and inbound receptive markets. The late founder, Larry Needler, was inducted into the Ontario Motor Coach Association "Hall of Fame" for this significant contribution to the industry. Can-ar Coach Service name and livery were adopted in 1983 at the commencement of the tenure of the current owner and President, Cy Tokmakjian.
Can-ar operates 33 luxury tour coaches of 47, 52 and 55 passenger capacity as a charter specialist.
Can-ar Charter Coach Operations:
Can-ar enjoys the confidence of a great number of wholesale tour and receptive operators in the Canadian inbound tourism industry, which account for over 40% of sales. Tour groups from the Pacific Rim (Japan primarily), German-speaking Europe and the United Kingdom (in order of magnitude) are provided in- and outbound airport transfers, local and regional sightseeing and multiple day touring services. Up to 100 charter movements per day are routinely handled, with as many as four trips operated per coach in a single day. Domestic business is derived from aircrew transfers, convention and meeting planners, education tour operators, school boards, senior citizen's tour operators and provincial and municipal governments. A separate division handling day trips to Casino Rama near Orillia, Ontario is experiencing tremendous growth.
Vaughan Transit Operations:
Can-ar is currently operating a fleet of over 75 transit buses, owned by York Region, under contract for this Municipality since 1985. Can-ar employs 150 drivers in this service and performs human resourcesservices, dispatch and route inspection, full maintenance, farebox service, daily cleaning and storage.
Coach Cleaning and Maintenance Operations:
The Can-ar Maintenance Facility in Concord, Ontario operates 24-hours per day. They perform all fleet cleaning and repair functions. Engine and Transmission replacement and rebuilds are handled by SN Diesel, the Tokmakjian division located at the same address.
The fleet is stored and cleaned at our 221 Caldari Road, Concord facility. This site features easy access to the airport (25minutes) and downtown (25 minutes) as well as the availability of all conceivable required service equipment and personnel.
